Getting ready for the holiday season can take a lot of work: planning, shopping, decorating, eating, and more eating. Thanksgiving weekend is no longer just about eating and spending time with your loved ones; it’s also the start of the holiday shopping season. Small Business Saturday is sandwiched between Black Friday and Cyber Monday and celebrates the local stores that help make our community so great.
According to American Express, for every dollar spent at a small business, an average of $0.67 stays in that business’s local community. These are the businesses sponsoring your kids’ sports programs, donating prizes to causes, and constantly giving back to the community and the members within. They are the mom-and-pop stores that are locally owned and locally staffed and are just as worthy of shoppers’ attention as a big box store.
This year, Small Business Saturday is celebrated nationwide on November 27, and I encourage you to participate in your own community. It’s a big deal to shop small!
