One of the first things I think of when I hear “October” would be the color orange, whether it’s Halloween pumpkins or leaves changing its color. Although the times and qualities of peak fall color have to do with weather and elevation, we will highlight some must-see areas around Rolla during the autumn season.
10th Street
Driving down 10th Street this time of year is refreshing, but going for a walk on the Ber Juan trail under the color-changing trees is even better!
Salem Avenue
Salem Avenue stretches from 5th Street to Highway 72 and is filled with Maple and Sweetgum trees, perfect for the fall foliage.
Highway 8
Meramec Spring Park is beautiful this time of year, but so is the drive there! Starting in St. James and heading towards Steelville, the curvy roads of Highway 8 are filled with fall colors.
Martin Springs Outer Road
Not only is this a beautiful drive, but it’s a historical one at that! This road was once the original Route 66; you can still see the half curbs on portions of this drive.
